Dr Shoukat Ali Arain is a senior lecturer in Pathology at the College of Medicine. He obtained his basic medical education from Islamia University Bahawalpur and earned his PhD from Ziauddin University Karachi Pakistan. His research work focused on non-invasive monitoring of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C. At Alfaisal University, he is involved in teaching, research and university service. He has been pathology course director for Neurosciences block, co-director for Head and Neck and Special Senses block. He is heavily involved in problem-based learning (session facilitation, co-ordination, and case writing and review). He has been involved in exam writing as member and coordinator of exam review process.
Dr. Khurshid Anwar is currently an Associate Professor in Pathology department at Alfaisal University, Riyadh. He teaches General and Systemic Pathology courses to undergraduate medical students. He has teaching experience of more than 32 years in various medical institutes in Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, UAE and Saudi Arabia. He did his MBBS and MPhil (Pathology) from Khyber Medical College Peshawar and University of Karachi Pakistan respectively. He completed his PhD from Fukui University Japan in 1993. His main research interest is in Human carcinogenesis related to Human Papillomavirus infection and genetic mutations. Recently he has developed keen interest in medical education and is actively using Team Based Learning (TBL) techniques in teaching Pathology courses for last 3 years. He has attended number of international conferences and has more than 16 publications in international Journals related to cancer and medical education. Dr. Muhammad Abrar Barakzai, currently an Assistant Professor in Pathology, College of Medicine, Alfaisal University Riyadh Saudi Arabia, since September 2011 to date.
He delivers tutorial lectures, conducts PBL sessions, prepares and reviews MCQs and SAQs in General and Systemic Pathology to undergraduate medical students.
Prior to his current assignment, Dr. Barakzai worked as an Assistant Professor and Consultant Histopathologist at Aga Khan University/Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan for over 8 years. Dr. Barakzai graduated with MBBS degree from Liaquat Medical College Jamshoro, Pakistan in 1983, and successfully completed his MPhil in Histopathology from Postgraduate Medical Institute, Punjab University, Lahore in 1990.
He continued his academic and professional accomplishments, and completed his Fellowship (FCPS) in Histopathology from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) in 2005, with his main research interest in "Prostate tumours and Gastrointestinal Pathology". Dr. Barakzai further pursued and successfully completed special trainings in GI & Pancreatobiliary Pathology from Brigham & Women Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, and Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada.
His professional teaching and clinical experience spans over 23 years in various medical institutions and hospitals in Pakistan, as well as in Saudi Arabia, and has attended numerous international medical Conferences including own medical presentations and also attended workshops in medical education. To his credit, Dr. Barakzai has written several cancer-related publications in International Journals.
Dr.Raddaoui is currently the Professor and Consultant Pathologist at Alfaisal University, Riyadh. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology. He has worked as an Associate Professor and consultant pathologist for about twelve years. He obtained his MD degree from Damascus University, Syria in 1984. He completed in 1987 his post graduate training, Histopathology at Damascus University. Later on, in the USA, He completed at Scott and White Memorial hospital-Texas A&M college of medicine, in the year 2003 his residency training in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical pathology. He also did fellowship training in the field of Cytopathology. Dr. Emad’s major research interest is in the field of cytopathology, mainly in the area of endoscopic and transbronchial ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration of the pancreas and lung. He has attended number of international and local conferences and has more than 30 publications in the field of pathology.
Dr Santosh Kumar is a lecturer in Pathology at the College of Medicine. He obtained his medical education from Aga Khan University, Pakistan. His research work focused on electrophysiological properties of the heart (at Aga Khan University) and dysregulation of adipogenic differentiation in obesity (at University of Cincinnati, USA). At Alfaisal University, he is involved in teaching, research and university service. He has represented Alfaisal University and presented his work in international medical education conferences. He has been pathology course director for cardiovascular block, co-director for reproductive block of phase-2. He is heavily involved in problem-based learning (session facilitation, co-ordination, and case writing and review). He has also been a member and coordinator of exam review process.
Dr Abdurrahman Ouban is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the College of Medicine, Alfaisal University. He is a U.S. and Canadian trained pathologist with 7 years teaching experience in Canada, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia. He graduated with an MD degree from Tishreen University in Lattakia, Syria and has a Masters of Public Health and Epidemiology from the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida-Tampa, USA. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at the University of South Florida hospitals in Tampa, Florida, USA, and followed that with a Fellowship in Molecular Oncological Surgical Pathology at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr Abdurrahman has taught general as well as systemic pathology courses for the past 7 years. He also has long experience in teaching the USMLE Step1 course. His primary research interests include cancer epidemiology and biomarkers' discovery. Currently he is planning to design platforms to investigate the applications of molecular medicine in pharmaco-epidemiology and tailored therapies.
Dr. Muhammad Raihan Sajid is currently a Senior lecturer in Department of Pathology at Alfaisal University, Riyadh. He teaches General and Systemic Pathology courses especially Haematology courses to undergraduate medical students. He did his MBBS from Dow medical college Karachi in 1994 and is a fellow of college of physicians and surgeons Pakistan in the discipline of Haematology since 2003. He is a trained haematologist with interest in medical education. He is currently completing his diploma in medical education from University of Dundee, UK. He is also the coordinator for the PBL system of learning for semester 5 and 6. Before joining Alfaisal University, he was serving as Assistant professor Haematology in the department of Pathology Aga Khan University Karachi. His main research interest is in haematological malignancies including chronic myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non- malignant hematological disorders like thalassemia and hemophilia. He has attended number of international conferences and has more than 15 publications in indexed Journals related to haematology.
Dr Ahlam Alshedoukhy is Canadian board trained and certified anatomical pathologist acquired FRCPC in 2000 Calgary – Canada, she also has subspecialisation training in the field of Dermato pathology from UCSF – USA in April 2005.
Dr Alshedoukhy worked as a consultant pathologist and head of department in many institutions in Riyadh, including KKUH, SFH & NGAH and KFSH&RC before joining Alfaisal University as assistant professor in pathology. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience for under graduate students and 13 years for postgraduate students. She was appointed as chairwoman of the department of pathology and pharmacology, when she joined Alfaisal University COM in September 2011. She played a great role in developing the department, with regards to allocating excellent resources, developing internal policies and procedures, internal structural organization and fiscal budget. Her leadership and vision to develop a strong and productive department which functions under a subculture of respect, trust and valuing human potential, growth, and accomplishment; and manifesting a collective spirit is witnessed by the impressive quality of the academic teaching activity of the team in phase II and the high standard of faculty in the department.
Dr Alshedoukhy was appointed as Phase II director, Member of assessment committee, and Member of curriculum committee on September 2011.
Being the phase II director she was responsible for overseeing the development, progress and delivery of the academic activity of all the blocks in semester 3, 4, & 5. She worked closely with the curriculum, assessment committee and the students MSA leaders to develop and standardized the structure of blocks in phase II. She empowered students through making the channels of feedback and continuous communications with the team available and clearly defined in her communications with the MSA representatives.
Dr Alshedoukhy is developing her interest in medical education especially with regards to the undergraduate study and education of pathology and laboratory medicine. She feels passionate about returning the many favours that she owes to her beloved country in trying to make a difference to the standard of medical care by planting the seeds of hunger for knowledge, competitiveness toward excellence in the medical students.
