Biochemistry is a central basic discipline to all branches of Life Sciences deals with the chemical nature, function, structure, energetic and pathways of synthesis and degradation of simple to complex biological and/or cellular molecules to understand the various aspects of cellular and molecular functions in development, health and disease with applications in Biotechnology and Medicine. Biochemistry provides molecular knowledge and chemical insights for the biomedical sciences. Biochemical-oriented basic and clinical research is a key to gaining new knowledge for the prevention and combating of disease and expanding the boundaries in medicine and science.
Our Mission is to be leaders in education and research at international levels. To be engaged in research of common Saudi medical problems. To raise awareness of our students in biochemistry and molecular medicine research and to encourage team work within the university and with other national and international universities.
The research interests of the Department are diverse and assure that researchers obtain a well-rounded exposure to both traditional and newer interdisciplinary approaches of scientific inquiry. Our research programs encompass human diseases and disorders related to cancer, inherited diseases, metabolic syndromes and inflammatory disorders.
